Thanks for this history. The war on teachers is getting out of hand now.

Thank you for confirming that the average American is a moron easily manioulated by the media.

As a 7 year teacher, I'm not particularly perturbed by use of LIFO; it's a common enough term and does describe who would lose their jobs/ keep their jobs should layoffs materialize. The issue is which teachers should be kept, and how that decision is made. There is no decision system in place for the layoffs in the proposed budget. Teachers with longevity worry that layoffs would be used primarily to reduce salary. (this often happens in private industry). I do feel sorry that NYC will use some dedicated, fresh thinking new young teachers, but it is also true that many new teachers are less effective at their craft than their more experienced colleagues.
